Pancake Breakfast with Santa 2011

Our annual Pancake Breakfast with Santa took place on Saturday, December 10 this year. Once again Santa was able to make time in his busy schedule to pay a special visit to Waterdown Montessori School. An enthusiastic set-up crew had everything ready with time to spare. As usual there was plenty of food, fun and fellowship. Thanks to Mrs. Katia, children (and adults too!) were kept busy painting a variety of festive ceramics in the craft room. We had a one-of-a-kind gingerbread lighthouse for a raffle, thanks to a creative parent. There was a steady stream of children waiting to have their picture taken with Santa, so our photographer was kept very busy! And when everyone had had their fill, the cleanup elves worked their magic, tidying everything away. Thank you, everyone!

Hallowe’en Pancake Breakfast 2011

It was the day before Hallowe’en, and the halls of WMS were filled with witches and warlocks, princesses and dragons as families arrived for our Hallowe’en pancake breakfast! An enthusiastic set up crew arrived at 8:00 am sharp and had everything ready to go in good time. The chefs were kept hopping as plates were filled. Friends chatted, parents of classmates introduced themselves, and a good time was had by all! Thanks to Katia Gustafson, children had the opportunity to paint some pottery if they chose to do so. At the end of the morning an efficient clean up crew had everything back in its place in record time. Thank you, everyone!

Children’s Harvest Luncheon 2011

Our annual Children’s Harvest Luncheon took place on Friday October 7. Parents contribute food for a harvest-themed potluck lunch. Volunteers help to turn the gym into a festive buffet. As the children file into the gym, parents help with choosing and serving. Older students give a hand to their younger schoolmates until at long last it is their turn. We are very grateful to the parents who packed up the leftovers and delivered them to a food bank.

Pottery Classes

Our new after school pottery classes have been very popular! The first session is drawing to a close, but a second session is being offered starting in April. This experience is open to children age 5 and up; children from outside the school are welcome to attend.

Valentines Family Party 2011

Another Valentines Party has come and gone – and what a great party it was! The potluck dinner was scrumptious. There were raffles and a Silent Auction for the adults, and games and activities for the children. The new Rona Building Station was a hit, as were the “Teddies” that could be purchased and stuffed. We had a wonderful volunteer who spent the entire evening turning children into butterflies, jaguars, puppies and more with face paint. There were temporary tattoos, a “Lucky Dip”, and Valentines cards to decorate and deliver. The evening wouldn’t be complete without Calvin the magician, and our DJ Owen Quinn. This year’s Valentines committee deserves a big thank you. Well done!

On Saturday, December 4, WMS families, friends and alumni filled the school for a fabulous Pancake Breakfast. The food was scrumptious, of course, the crafts were fun, the coat check was busy, Usborne books did a brisk trade, but the star attraction was Santa himself, who squeezed one more visit into his hectic schedule. Santa Claus Parade 2010

There is nothing more exciting than the Flamborough Santa Claus Parade on a November Saturday night! Our 48ft flatbed was overflowing with excited kids and parents. It was our highest participation ever! We were happily squeezed in like a bunch of sardines, and had blankets, snacks and hot drinks to keep us warm. We all kept our hands waving and played great music to keep the crowd (and us) entertained. Thank you all for climbing aboard!Click image to close

Hallowe’en Pancake Breakfast

Our October 31st Hallowe’en Pancake Breakfast was tremendous fun.

There was lots of help on the day itself, and the halls soon filled with costumed characters, some little and some full-sized ones! A special thanks to the families who provided the green bins, and dealt with the blue boxes!

We decided to simplify this year, and ONLY sold tickets. No raffles, no bake sale, no penny sale….just breakfast and a simple “craft” to keep restless bodies occupied. There was a wonderful turnout; even a few alumni joined us! About 137 people came. Ticket sales brought in about $685 for the school. Thank you!

Elementary Yoga

Thanks to Ms. Wyn, the elementary class had an introduction to yoga this term. Sessions were worked into the timetable, as part of the physical education program. The children responded with enthusiasm.

Easter Egg Hunt 2010

Saturday, April 3 was a perfect day for our ninth annual Easter Egg Hunt and Carnival. This event is open to the whole community. The egg hunts are the biggest draw, of course, but with a bouncy castle, lots of games, a book fair, raffles, bake sale and hot dogs there is always lots to do! The event is only possible thanks to the many volunteers who help out every year.
